Due to the global chip shortage, Chevrolet trucks and many General Motors will not have the function of heating seats in 2022.

In addition, other exciting features will also be affected, including high-definition radio.

According to The Verge, Chevrolet has revealed that due to continued chip shortages, Chevrolet will no longer be able to provide heated or ventilated seats on almost all upcoming SUVs and pickups, as first reported by Automotive News.

Cnet added that a GM spokesperson confirmed that some vehicles lack heating elements, but emphasized that the adjustment is temporary until the automaker's chip supply resumes. Not sure if this refers to the model year, months, or other period.

Chevrolet Malibu, Trailblazer, Blazer, Equinox, Traverse, Colorado, Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD will no longer provide heated and ventilated seats, but they will be available in some variants.

In addition to the seats, Chevrolet heated steering wheel is also not suitable for some vehicles. However, they can be used in Chevy Bolt EV and EUV, Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Cadillac CT4 and CT5. Other than that, it will depend on pruning. This means that consumers must check the window stickers of a certain car to determine whether the option is available. However, if these vehicles do not heat the steering wheel, MSRP will earn additional points.

Regarding the aforementioned credits, Cnet further stated that affected customers will receive credits ranging from US$150 to US$500 to make up for their losses.

In addition to Chevrolet heated steering and seats, the car and the driver also shared several affected features of the 2022 Chevrolet truck.

GM announced earlier this summer that due to the lack of chip-dependent technology, the HD radio option will be removed from its audio system. According to The Drive, the modification affects multiple interiors of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500s and GMC Sierra 1500s for the 2021 and 2022 models. In addition, Chevrolet 2500 and 3500 heavy pickup trucks in 2022 will also be affected.

In addition, Silverado LS, RST, LT, Trail Boss, LTZ and High-Country decorations, as well as Sierra SLE, SLT, Elevation, AT4 and Denali Sierra decorations will not be equipped with HD Radio. Fortunately, General Motors will issue a $50 credit line to affected truck buyers, the same as the other deleted options

Due to chip scarcity, General Motors revealed in March that some Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models in 2021 will use more gasoline. Some cars equipped with a 5.3-liter V-8 engine, six-speed or eight-speed automatic transmission, and active fuel management or dynamic fuel management will lack a cylinder deactivation system.

As a result of the adjustment, the fuel consumption of the truck will increase by one mile per gallon.

According to Kelly’s Blue Book, even today’s low-cost cars contain more than 100 small computers, which are essential for maintaining the car’s engine timing and suspension adjustments and other mechanical tasks. However, the chip is also responsible for creating comfort, such as climate control and entertainment.

Despite the benefits of chips, the entire automotive industry will lack microchips. During the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic, automakers reduced their orders for key parts because Americans seem to be unable to buy cars at normal prices for a long time.
