Ducati launched a truly powerful dual-power model on the Multistrada platform of the new Multistrada V2 and V2 S, expanding its V-twin footprint before MY2022. Comfortable ergonomics, powerful engines and top electronic equipment bring large-caliber functions combined in a more compact and lighter global travel platform. You can call it an entry-level machine, but it can be someone's destination bike, not just a stepping stone or transitional model.

It is undeniable that this Italian brand’s passion for its craftsmanship, Multistrada V2 is no exception, with an identifiable DNA mark from the Borgo Panigale design family. The combination of beautiful lines and aerodynamic features gives it a certain curb appeal, although it is fair to say that form follows function, especially on this type of bicycle, so aesthetics should be regarded as a happy coincidence. Not necessarily a selling point.

Weight reduction is an important item. The weight displayed on the scale is 11 pounds less than the previous version. The building is very versatile and can satisfy both commuters and tourists.

A shredded front fender leads the way, and the column doubles as a foil to guide the wind around the fork and laminar flow on the side of the bicycle to improve penetration. Ducati sticks to its usual Multistrada fairing design, with a blunt beak and angry bird headlight, including DRL function to ensure safety under all ambient light conditions.

The original windshield and standard hand guards together with the fairing form a protective bubble for the pilot. The factory integrates the front turn signal with the hand guard to make the front end look neat and tidy like a needle. Behind the glass is an LCD display that bundles all relevant riding information with the rider interface for electronic riding quality control, although the "S" variant has a 5-inch TFT display.

The typical feature of this breed is that the tall fuel tank and the deep scoop seat combine to form a quite eye-catching flying line. The flying line rises from the back, allowing the passengers to lift high and acting as the pilot’s buttocks. . The sturdy JC handle provides an anchor point for your cargo or cargo net. The relaxed rider triangle places your heels below your hips to provide proper support, and the handlebar handles are set to provide sufficient leverage for the steering efforts of most riders.

Below the cargo deck at the rear, the taillights are molded in the terminal above the integrated fender of the mounting plate, beacon and turn signal. Rocker-mounted hugs provide the rest of the throwing containment. Visually, the most significant difference between the standard V2 and V2 S is the choice of graphics on the fairing and the accent on the light-shielding rim.

The tubular steel trellis frame on the Multistrada V2 uses the engine as a force-bearing member to replace most of the frame and trim some weight from the frame. The steering head is set to a front angle of 25 degrees. Once the 19-inch front hoop is taken into account, it has a 4.2-inch tail distance, placing the V2 siblings at the more flexible end of the control range. The total length of the suspension travel is 6.7 inches front and rear, but the suspension components of the two are different.

Both models use a full range of damping and preload adjustments, but the V2 S uses Ducati's proprietary electronic suspension system to enhance the game, and the semi-active Skyhook suspension EVO provides rapid contour changes. Pirelli provided rubber with Scorpion Trail II hoops of 120/70-19 before 170/60-17. All rubbers have a "Z" speed rating, which means that it will withstand every point of punishment that a V2 mill may produce.

Brembo's dual radially mounted calipers bite the 320mm front brake disc with sufficient force from the four-hole opposed piston calipers. Double tank, piston and anvil calipers snap the 265 mm disc backwards, and turn ABS is available in stock, allowing you to safely make the most of these anchor points. The seat height is variable. The height of the spare seat from the deck is 32.7 inches, but if this does not suit you, please increase it to 33.5 inches or reduce it drastically to 31.1 inches with the accessory seat and lowered suspension.

Multistrada V2 and V2 S are powered by the L-Twin engine, which can output 113 horsepower in 9th gear and is supported by 71 pound-feet of torque. The maximum speed is 7,750 rpm. This is a considerable return for the 937 cc twins. The four-valve head is driven by Ducati’s iconic Desmodromic. It replaces the traditional valve spring with a pull-to-close cam system to provide forced closing of the poppet valve. It eliminates the possibility of harmonic valve floats to ensure that the safe speed is at the top of the range.

It is a short-stroke engine with a cylinder diameter of 94 mm, a stroke of 67.5 mm, and a compression ratio of 12.6 to 1, requiring high-quality push rods. Liquid cooling eliminates waste heat, and the addition of a water jacket helps to reduce some of the mechanical noise inside the chassis.

The chain-type main drive and slipper-type hydraulic clutch couple the engine power to the six-speed gearbox. Here we find another difference from the "S" model. Ducati's proprietary Quick Shift is equipped on the "S", which allows you to move up and down within the gear range without touching the clutch or even stepping on the accelerator. The sturdy chain final drive transmits power to the rear wheels. As for ride quality control, the V2 platform has them.

Ducati Safety Pack bundles lean and sensitive ABS and Ducati's traction control with power mode and riding mode to quickly change personality. Modulated brake lights increase your rear safety, and vehicle hold control allows you to put down your two Lamborfeeties for extra stability on slopes. The previous model had a top speed of 145 mph, and I expect this new car to land in the same block.

The basic V2 is launched in Ducati Red, priced at $15,295. If you want those S-shaped goodies, you can expect to start at $17 and $895, but you can choose between Ducati Red and Monochrome Street Gray.

Ducati is a great product, but I think Kawasaki's Versys 1000 SE LT+ may be a worthy competitor.

Kawi insists on the same street biases as Ducati, so Versys is built for urban commuters and long-distance riders. As for aesthetic differences, generally speaking, there are relatively few. The front turn signal is mounted on the actual fairing instead of the handguard, which can be said to be less noticeable at that height. However, the clear windshield, hand guard and thick fairing do provide comfort and protection in bad weather.

In the final analysis, Versys can't achieve Duc's elegance. However, the electronics are quite comparable, but the 1,043 cc engine still manages to increase the torque output to 75.2 pound-feet with a lower compression ratio of 10.3 to 1, which is slightly higher than the Multistrada in terms of brute force.

Versys is unique in the inventory luggage category, equipped with double quick-release hard-sided hanging baskets, adding greater practicality and convenience to the showroom floor. However, you will pay $18,399 for this, which may be the cost of the V2 S after you throw the bag, so I am afraid it comes down to brand preference/loyalty.

"This can be considered an entry-level product in the Multistrada series, but it is a relative statement, because Japanese manufacturers provide models with real beginner displacement. That is, it puts the magic of Multistrada in one package. , It’s easier to pick up if/when you put it down, it’s done well."

My wife and motorcycle writer Allyn Hinton said: “Let’s take a brief look at what makes the V2 S unique. Yes, the biggest difference is the semi-active electronic suspension, which really brings a better ride experience. , Although V2 is not slacking in terms of riding performance. Add up/down quick shifter, which is an option on V2. In addition, "S" comes standard with cruise control, turning lights, backlit handlebar control and 5-inch TFT display Screen. Overall, this is a good bag. You can get the "S" in the travel version with the bag, heating handle and center stand.
