Austin-High-speed car accidents and abuse of child car seats can lead to unimaginable disasters, which is why TxDOT encourages parents to arrange free car seat safety inspections in its annual "Save Me with a Seat" event.

Car accidents are the leading cause of child deaths in the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data, 46% of child car seats are abused. To encourage parents to arrange a free car seat safety inspection, the "Save Me With a Sea" campaign is being carried out across the state to help Texans protect their children on the road. "Save Me With a Seat" will be held concurrently with the National Child Passenger Safety Week to be held from September 19 to 25, 2021.

TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams (Marc Williams) said: “The correct use of child car seats can help reduce children’s injuries in collisions and prevent death.” We urge parents to schedule a car seat inspection today to ensure They safely and correctly use suitable car seats for their children. "

The "Save Me With a Sea" event will attract attention in September as a branded digital billboard truck travels across the state and stops in 11 communities in Texas. Digital trucks will be set up at community events and other high-traffic locations to display information about the "Save Me With a Sea" event on the illuminated LED screen. The digital truck will also display video content to educate parents and caregivers about car seat safety. Public campaigns will be supported by television and radio advertisements, billboards, digital media and social media.

TxDOT provides free car seat safety inspections throughout the year. Parents and caregivers can visit SaveMeWithASeat.org and enter their zip code to find the nearest TxDOT traffic safety expert in their area to make an appointment or view child car seat safety tips.

As a reward for parents who visit the site, TxDOT is holding a free gift event for child car seats or booster seats. To enter, please visit SaveMeWithASeat.org to fill out the giveaway form. The registration period for the gifts is from September 1st to September 29th, 2021, and the winners will be announced on September 30th.

In 2020, 78 children under the age of 8 were killed in traffic accidents in Texas, and 31 of them were not restrained when the accident occurred. Among children aged 8-12 in 2020, 40 died in traffic accidents, and 16 of them were not restrained when the accident occurred. According to NHTSA, child car seats in passenger cars can reduce the risk of fatal injuries for infants in collisions by 71% and for young children by 54%.

TxDOT reminds drivers that Texas law requires all children under the age of 8-unless they are more than 4 feet 9 inches tall-to sit in a car seat whenever they ride in a passenger car. Failure to properly restrain a child may result in a fine of up to $250. Children under the age of 13 should sit in the back seat and wear a seat belt or safety seat correctly.

"Save Me With a Seat" is a key part of #EndTheStreakTX, a broader social media and word of mouth effort to encourage drivers to make safer choices when driving, such as wearing seat belts and speeding. Never text or drive, and never drive under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. November 7, 2000 was the last day of immortality on the Texas highway. #EndTheStreakTX requires all Texans to commit to safe driving in order to help end the daily continuous deaths.
