The PRO-4X off-road kit is available on Nissan’s new 2022 Frontier and 2021 Titan XD. It is a combination of hard parts and internal processing, making these two pickups competitive in their respective market segments when they leave the sidewalk.

Join our report on Toyota Pro, Ford F-150 Tremor and GMC AT4 off-road kits. This article details Nissan’s PRO-4X options, especially the options installed on the frontier cab, which will be tested in the four models in 2022 Wheeler's annual pickup truck evaluation, one of five pickup trucks.

Although Nissan's four-wheel drive trucks are powerful in their own right, the company said that the PRO-4X is characterized by "expanding this capability through technology, engineering, style and courage." All of these are present in the 2022 Frontier PRO-4X.

The PRO-4X off-road kit was originally provided to Frontier in 2009. The core option at the time, today's set includes many of the same robust chassis and suspension components—such as heavy-duty bushings and Bilstein shock absorbers—installed on the original.

Of course, since then, many new in-cab facilities have also been added to the PRO-4X portfolio, but the core updates are still under the body and in the technology, allowing Frontier to be consistent with other medium-sized off-road drilling rigs.

In addition to four-wheel drive, the 2022 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X Crew Cab actually shares many standard features with its King Cab S siblings. Here, we detail the details of the components directly related to the truck’s performance and capabilities on dirt and rocks, as well as other internal and external features included in the PRO-4X off-road package. These can be personal options through the purchase of additional fees Or the package is further enhanced.

Like Nissan’s Frontier King Cab S, the 2022 Frontier PRO-4X is equipped with an updated 3.8-liter V-6 engine that can produce 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque. The power unit is supported by a nine-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system controlled by a switch-operated two-speed transfer case. Other unique decorative drive train equipment includes an electronic locking rear differential and a switch for selecting traction or traction mode.

In terms of chassis and suspension, there are once again direct similarities between King Cab S and PRO-4X Frontier. Both drilling rigs are equipped with an engine speed-sensitive power steering system (a ratio increased by 16%), an independent double wishbone front suspension and a multi-leaf rear suspension (with a Dana 44 solid shaft). PRO-4X specific upgrades include Bilstein single-tube shock absorbers optimized for off-road performance and rear suspension stabilizer bars.

The wheel and tire combination of the Nissan PRO-4X off-road kit allows the 16-inch base wheel to extend up to 17 inches. On the rig we evaluated, the Hankook Dynapro AT2 P265/70R 17 all-terrain tires are mounted on bead lock aluminum wheels, which is an optional upgrade. The standard PRO-4X rim shown here is a "dark" 17 rim.

In the cockpit, there are several differences between the PRO-4X and Nissan's standard truck interior. A six-way power driver's seat (with two-way manual lumbar support) and a 60/40 split rear foldable center armrest can be finished with optional leather and black upholstery stitching. Can replace the wrapped lava red. The package contains PRO-4X seat embroidery, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, chrome door handle and PRO-4X carpet floor mats.

The Nissan PRO-4X off-road kit also comes standard with a number of convenient functions. These include dual-zone automatic temperature control, Nissan's smart key and button ignition, sun visor with illuminated vanity mirror and extensions, four cup holders and an overhead storage box for sunglasses.

There are many components on the 2022 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X that are not found on the King Cab S model. Leading the way are aluminum skid plates located at the front and under the truck to protect the oil pan, fuel tank and transfer case. The iconic LED headlights, fog lights and daytime running lights are standard equipment, as are the lava red front tow hooks. Frontier PRO-4X gets special identification badges and decals, dark gray (with black interior area) front grille, black fenders, rear bumper in the same color as the body, door handles and dual electric rearview mirrors. Finally, a sliding rear window completes the exterior handling of the truck.

The main equipment in this area includes NissanConnect 9-inch color touch screen display, door-to-door navigation, NissanConnect service (including Wi-Fi hotspot), Sirius XM radio and traffic/travel link, and vehicle security system. With 10 speakers (including subwoofer) ) The Fender Advanced Audio System can be used as an option for the PRO-4X model.

Nissan's Pro technology package is suitable for 2022 Frontier PRO-4X, which contains a large number of warnings and help to help improve road safety.

This selectable group is highlighted by the smart surround view monitor and includes an off-road mode, which is very useful when climbing over rocks, climbing mountains, or performing other off-road operations with impaired vision.

In addition to 17-inch lock-ball wheels, the PRO premium package also includes a number of interior upgrades for the 2022 Frontier PRO-4X.
