Letter: Shameful Power Seizure in Our County-Chico Enterprise Records

In reply to ER's editorial, "A regrettable spectacle is coming to an end", I am disappointed that you made a mistake. Unfortunately, it is too late to issue a reply before the supervisory board that must decide the issue.

Butte County is divided into a relatively 50-50 Democratic/Republic department. Data analyst Todd Stump is a nonpartisan Common Cause volunteer. He said that Map A5-C "is a shocking example of a gerrymander textbook. Democrats are squeezed into one seat, and Republicans are divided into one security seat and Two relatively safe seats, and one swing seat."

In Stump's analysis of map A10, although not so shocking, it was clearly deliberately provocative: "Democrats are packed with one seat, and the other seat may be the Democratic victory; Republicans are divided into 2 safe seats. And a relatively safe seat."

The populations of the two mainly agricultural areas that most regulators so hoped are unreasonable. Although the Fair Maps Act redistributed standards to maintain the geographic integrity of the city and local communities, they achieved the required population division by splitting Chico.

I live south of the barber area, southeast of the Diamond Race, in an area that was divided into Gridley and farmland 10 years ago. Our "interest community" is Nan Chico: our children go to Chico school; we are actively involved in the establishment of Chico's Comanche Creek Greenway; we are currently actively providing advice on the development of Diamond Match. We belong to the Chico area!

Despite hundreds of public requests, a divided county will prevail-a shameful power struggle!
