Notably, Ford also makes the Maverick, though it's not one of the most popular trucks from the company. The truck initially ran on the market from 1970 until '77 before being discontinued. However, the nameplate was used in other parts of the world.

Gone are the days when trucks and large SUVs needed to have the biggest engines to be powerful. The 2022 Ford Maverick is an example of this more efficient way of powering large vehicles. The XL trim, the base model, comes with two engine options. According to Ford, one is a 2.5-liter FHEV hybrid engine, and the other is a 2-liter EcoBoost. The hybrid engine has a combined output of 191 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and a torque of 155 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm. The Maverick with the gas-powered engine has a max power of 250 hp at 5,500 RPM, and its torque is 277 lb-ft. at 3,000 rpm.

For transmission, the hybrid option has an electronically continuously variable transmission, and the more traditional truck has an 8-speed automatic. It takes about 7.7 seconds for the hybrid engine to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph, whereas the gas-powered turbocharged engine can reach this feat in only 5.9 seconds.

In terms of towing capacity, the 2022 Ford Maverick XL can tow up to 2,000 pounds. Though there are trucks that excel over the Maverick in this category, it must be remembered that this is a compact truck and not one of Ford’s larger options.
