As the first mainstream electric pickup trucks begin to hit the market, it becomes increasingly important for manufacturers whose products haven’t yet begun production to find ways to set themselves apart.

And while Tesla‘s Cybertruck is certainly distinctive in its design, it doesn’t really push many boundaries in terms of usability. However, if a recent patent filing is be believed, the Cybertruck could soon be getting a very useful feature: folding rear seats.

The detail was first spotted by eagle-eyed users over on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum. The handle on the top of the rear seats seems to confirm that the rear seats are folding, and its placement seems to indicate a 60/40 split configuration. However, before we get too excited at the prospect of a bed pass-through similar to the one found in the Chevy Avalanche, one user on the forum was quick to point out that just because it has folding rear seats doesn’t mean it definitely has a pass-through.

That being said, a truck like the Cybertruck could benefit greatly from the addition of a pass-through, which would allow for lager items in the bed and create more storage space overall. On top of that, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has even considered adding one himself in the past, likely in response to a similar feature existing on the competing Bollinger B2 electric pickup. Additionally, due to the Cybertruck’s unique triangular shape, closing the tonneau cover with such a pass-through would essentially turn the cabin into a giant camper.

This feature, combined with the front row’s folding middle seat, could result in the Cybertruck arriving with more practicality than initially though. Now we just have to wait for it to actually arrive.
